Winter Break - The 2018 CSA Seasons Has Ended!

Hello Everyone,

Hope you all are enjoying the early deep freeze.  Better than the return of fires for the poor folks in California.  What a terrible tragedy there. As a farmer I am sure we are experiencing climate change but I don't think it's just carbon fuels and other human activities causing it.  History has recorded severe weather and other cataclysms in the past. Some are benefiting from the changes and others not so much. So far we in the Pacific North West have been very fortunate.

FARM NEWS:

Thanksgiving is coming upon us. To me it is really like a Turkey Day. So far have had orders for 36 Turkeys, 1 Goose, and 3 Ducks as well as other Holiday Dinner Meats. This Thursday we'll be delivering a lot of turkeys!  We have also been getting a lot of year end Custom Orders for animal portions. Beware that we only have enough beef and hogs for a few more orders. Some Lambs sold too but most orders come in for them before Easter.

Calves doing fine so far. Another born yesterday.  Glad its supposed to warm up a little soon.

Hen's are starting to lay more eggs again.  I'm sure Heat Lamps in the Huts and a lot of veggie scraps have helped also. Making up 1-1/2 ton batch of feed for them soon to last for a while through the cold weather.  Also just mixed up another 5 tons of feed for the hogs today.

Got all the propane heaters working for the Greenhouses and hauled home five more 100lb bottles as well as six 25lb. bottles for back up while I'm gone refilling the large ones. Also turned on the growing lights to test them. The heaters and the lights are a major growing expense in order to grow for the extended 36 week season for the CSA.

Been spending a lot of time winterizing water lines, drinkers and equipment.  One serious freeze up can cause big expensive problems.

ON-LINE and SPECIAL ORDERS:

We will continue to take orders thru the Winter Season for the next three months and make deliveries by special arrangements at appointment times. Beside Meat, Poultry and Eggs we plan to have some fresh salad greens and micro-greens available.
