Three Little Pigs :)
Hello Members & Friends,
Preparing for another heat wave. Please try to pick up deliveries as early as possible starting at 3pm this coming Thursday the 24th.
Mixed 8,500lb's of pig feed. Took twice as long as usual because the tornado wind and rain storm blew water into the inner parts of the mixer which kept causing a lot of clogs to clean out. Thankfully the second load went better. Price of feed grain has suddenly gone up about 25%. Probably because of drought fears and shortages at harvest time. We expect the same to happen with hay and meat costs. As such, now wood be a good time to place Custom Livestock Orders to beat the coming price increases.
Our Alfalfa Hay fields are still experiencing weather stresses which will affect production yields. Trying to figure out strategy's for next year.
The last twin calves are still doing well. One has learned to mooch milk from other mothers of calves about the same age.
I was checking on the hogs the other day and found one who dug a hole under a bush and was hiding out in it. Found she was shielding a new litter of babies. We managed to move her off and gathered the piglets and took them to the shade of the barn. Soon she was following us right into the barn stall and they are all doing fine now!
Cows now have access to pasture in the timber so they'll have a little shade from the heat the next couple of weeks, which are forecast to get even hotter by next week. Be nice if another thunder storm followed it like last time.
Continuing with more garden planting. Using lots of water which competes with the waterlines to the cows so we have to carefully regulate the water use. Usually not a problem. Have read online that we're blessed with better weather here than the rest of the west. Hope it stays that way.
Taking 6 more hogs to the processor next Monday but they are all sold. Have a few more beef and hogs for end of next month. A few are still available.
Here's what's store for this week:
Micro Greens, Lettuce Salad Mix, Kale, Chard, Daikon Greens, Collard Greens, Sugar Peas, Napa Cabbage, Green Onions/Leeks, Squash, Dry Onion, Carrots, Herb-Lemon, Rhubarb, Garlic Chives
VARIETY OF MEATS
Chicken, Ground Beef, Steak Cutlets, Ham and/or Pork Roasts, Bacon, Sausage, Surprise Item
See you all soon!
