Hello Friends and Members,
Isn't this Spring weather great? Finally! I'M SERIOUSLY AFFECTED BY SPRING FEVER NOW! Suddenly just running around trying to figure out how to get all the Spring projects and work done at once. Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!
Mostly been busy keeping the cows fed and fixing lots of fence. Had to haul in three loads of hay to keep them satisfied till I get the fence work done. Keeping them closer to the house now so I can watch them better. All the livestock are doing there Spring thing with another cute little calf born and also a litter of piglets that are doing very well. They have doubled in size since a few days ago when they were born. The field crops are starting to grow but the ground is still too soggy to drive field equipment around on to do Spring work. Wondering if I should go back to using horses? I miss working with them. Will be mixing another load of feed for the hogs tomorrow. Hope we have a few less problems with that process this time.
SO is real busy doing more planting and transferring started plants like cucumbers and tomatoes into the hoop houses. Not to mention a lot of greens and even peas. Some of the storage veggies are getting a little stale so we hope this good growing weather continues. Last year we had undulating cool weather with real hot days. Many plants were confused and didn't know if they should bolt or die from frost burn. Made it very hard to grow some things.
Let the Hens outside on grass the last few days. Lost several to predators already. SO is using the Puppy to round them up and get them into the huts if we can't be here to watch for predators. Part of my fencing projects is to improve the poultry and garden fencing.
Picked up a processed half beef for inventory. Sorted it out into eighth's portions for those who need a quantity of beef right away. Also have lamb and pork portions ready to go in the freezer. Got an order for two hogs and only have eight left for orders this Spring. Beef sales have been good and will have more beef available for late Spring.
