Rocky Ridge Ranch Newsletter - Sept 13

Hello Friends and Members,


Glad to see the heat wave seems to be over. Even getting a little rain.

Farm News:

First sow this fall had her little piggies. We had another calf born as well. Three calves so far this fall. All doing well. Still working on the tractor engine repair. My grandson came out and helped with the air conditioner system removal. My two good part time helpers doing most of the work. Going to be expensive. Wouldn't have been possible without the help of two senior CSA Members signing up early. Not sure what field work to get ready for next year. Can't do much until moisture levels improve.

Trying to find some more hay. Besides the low yield of pasture and hay this is the first year I've ever had to feed hay in the summer. Hope all the doom's day weather predictions are false as usual. Last time we went through this the following year ended up with record high precipitation.

I have a schedule with CNJ to process more Beef and Pork for this Fall and have more Poultry including Ducks, Geese and Turkeys.


CSA News:

Ordered the materials to restore the green house in the photo last week. We could get even a surprise frost! Certainly hope not. Lot of veggies just coming to readiness now. We'll even have corn and more string beans this week.


This week will be the 27th delivery this year. As a reminder, the very last delivery is the week before Thanksgiving. If your a meat CSA Member and desire a turkey or special roast for the holidays let me know soon. Also we'll do our best to provide extra storage veggies for Produce Members. All went well last delivery as everyone was early, like during the heat waves. Thanks again!

Micro Green Mix , Salad Lettuce Mix, Daikon Greens, Napa Cabbage, Cabbage, Corn, String Beans, Fennel, Collard Greens, Kohlrabi, Beets, Carrots, Potatoes, Dry Onion, Salad Green Onions, Sesame Leaves, Cucumber, Squash, Garlic Chives, Herb-Parsley.


Variety of Meats

Chicken, Ground Beef, Beef Roast, Misc. Beef item, Bacon, Ground Pork Sausage, Misc. pork item.
