Rocky Ridge Ranch Newsletter - May 31
Hello Members & Friends,
Today is a day where we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country. Memorial Day is considered one of the most meaningful holidays recognized by many citizens. I certainly hope we can all take a moment to reflect on those that have served and lost their life in protection of our freedoms.
We're back and will be making deliveries for the Summer Quarter starting Thursday June 3rd. After a few nice days off we're back working out windstorms and drought challenges. Hard to keep SO out of the garden. She's trying to catch up on outdoor planting after another go at Gorilla Taping the greenhouses together.
The last few wind storms haven't brought any rain that is badly needed for pasture and Hay but instead brought us a few days of wind chill frost. We managed to cover the outdoor veggies that have emerged but pretty hard to cover 120 acres of Alfalfa. The high winds not only damaged the alfalfa but also sucked the moisture out of the seed beds so the 50 acres I planted earlier aren't emerging. Good thing most of the fence repair work is done. Will be able to graze the cattle on the frosted alfalfa but don't know where to get hay for Winter. My farm isn't the only one affected by the strange Spring weather. Also these dry conditions bring concern about fire danger.
After we got home from a couple days off we moved the cattle to new pasture and caught and penned the four I plan to take to the Processor. Also hope to take some hogs there soon. Still believing for a good rain. One year had a big rain storm on July 4th. I think I mentioned earlier we had a new batch of piglets born. The Sow won't let me take any good photo's yet. Had 14 calves born so far this Spring. Still expecting a few more.
Working on some new scheduling. Have a few new Members to contact for the next delivery after this coming one on June 3rd. Lets take a look at what's planned for the next delivery.
