Rocky Ridge Ranch Newsletter - July 4th
Hello Members & Friends,
Hopefully everyone is having a wonderful 4th of July with family and friends. We honor, respect and celebrate this special date as a much needed historical beacon of hope for all of todays Americans.
We do apologize for having to cancel last weeks deliveries as a result of the record heat wave. This week is certainly still very hot but a bit more manageable.
Please note: For this coming week's July 8th delivery we will also deliver to everyone who did not receive last weeks July 1st delivery.
Others will be shifted to next week to resume the normal alternating schedule for Half Share CSA Members. If this schedule revision is a problem or confusing for anyone, please advise by email or the Contact form and we'll work together to resolve it.
In order to work through the 112 degree heat here we've had to change our work day to mostly starting very early in the morning and late evening. SO has been working as early as 2-6am and has worked heroically to maintain the growth, planting and weeding of the veggies. Many plants were stressed by the high temps so constant watering has been vital.
With constant visits to the water tanks and shady areas the livestock are thankfully doing fine. However our hay crops have been nearly a total loss with only 10% of last years hay production. Other farms have the same circumstances. Not even sure if there will be hay to purchase at reasonable costs. May have to reduce the cattle herd size a lot in the near future. Right now they're busy grazing the left over forage in the hay fields. Some heavy rain would sure help a lot.
To ensure your CSA products remain as fresh as possible please try to pick up as early as you're able this Thursday the 8th.
