Rocky Ridge Ranch Newsletter - Aug 31st

Hello Friends and Members,,

    Made it through our week off. Actually took three days off from work visiting Hot Springs in Montana called Quinn's. Though not totally gone, thankfully our aches and pains do feel a little better.  Have a few new CSA Members that will start receiving deliveries this week. Hopefully everyone else read the last Newsletter advisory on the new schedule. We're accepting new CSA Memberships only until next week.


Farm News:


   Worried about the livestock and our hero dog Happy the whole time we were gone!  Found things just fine when we got home. Even one more baby calf. That means 9 late summer calves so far.


Had some volunteers dropping in to check on things. One water tank for the cows failed but they had another.  Thanks to all the rain this Spring there's plenty of pasture this Fall. It is starting to get dry and dusty so the cow prefer grazing early morning when there is a little dew on it for moisture. Last year we had to feed hay this time of year due to the dryness and smoke from fires. Still working on fence repairs.  The continuous hot weather slows us down some.  Also found time to do a little vehicle servicing.  SO's been keeping the garden fully watered. Also Happy chased a few Deer and some Rock Chucks out of the gardens this week.

    Still having trouble getting livestock processed due to Covid labor restrictions but there is some progress as I'm taking 6 hogs to the processor this coming Wednesday.  We're taking Custom Livestock Orders again but advising possible delays for several months.  We also have Poultry available including Turkeys.

CSA News :


    "SO has already been working on getting ready for this weeks delivery. Tomatoes are ripening fast now as well as the Corn.  Let's take a look at what we plan to bring this week.


Cooler of The Best Produce:

Micro Green Mix, Salad Lettuce Mix, Squash, Kale, Chard, Collard Greens, Cucumbers, Salad Onions, Small Leeks, Potatoes, Beets, Carrots, Kohlrabi, Cabbage, Bell Peppers, Fennel, Corn, Garlic Chives, Sesame Leaves, Daikon Greens, Herb-Basil, Tomatoes, and eggs.


Variety of Meats:

Chicken, Ground Beef, Beef Steak, Beef Stew Meat, Soup Bones, Assorted Pork Items.  (Some may get variations on these items as we're still waiting on new supply.)
