Rocky Ridge Ranch Newsletter - Apr 19
Hello Members and Friends,
Can you believe it?! More extreme wind storms. At least the temperature was higher than usual, although also ideal for dust storms and fires.
Still dealing with Pfizer Covid vaccination side effects but seems to be slowly getting better. Main problem has been severe inflammation with aching joints and mild fevers still remaining. Lost some weight too. Takes more determination and effort to do work!
Did more fence repairs. This place has about 7.5 miles of fences to maintain. Built about half of them and refurbished all but about 1.5 miles worth over the years. Had to rebuild about 3 miles following the fires passing through in 1991. About 2.75 miles are on very rough rocky terrain.
Just relocated cattle onto pasture of mostly range land yesterday. Without Curly to lead them it was a real hassle. New calves were especially a problem because they've never done it before. The pasture was rough rocky timbered land that we had to move them through and of course they shot in all different directions. One crazy young calf wore SO out chasing it back to it's young heifer mother who had accidentally abandoned it. Finally had to rope the calf and drag it along. When it saw mom it jerked lose from us and ran to her. It's still dragging the rope so we'll be checking on the little rascal until we can get it removed. It immediately started nursing and the mom threatened us so we couldn't get it off then. Just a couple examples of what keeps us busy each day on the ranch. Next will be chasing pigs in from pasture, sorting them and taking a few to the Processor tomorrow.
Winds still keeping us busy doing hoop house repairs. But the sunshine sure has been nice,
