November Hay

Hello Friends,

    This is the 34th Delivery of the year. Only two regular deliveries left. The holiday items like turkeys and the bountiful baskets of storage veggies will be delivered over the next two weeks. Besides CSA Members there are a lot of Special Orders, especially for turkeys.

    Since it's nearly end of Season we're asking that CSA Members let us know their plans for next Season and to make advance payments if possible. Advance payments help finance the Winter expenses for the livestock, seeds and utilities to continue growing for next year.

    Even though our regular weekly deliveries will be ending soon we can continue to deliver special orders by arrangement through the Winter, weather permitting. Also we will be taking advance orders for Spring Custom Livestock Portions.  We will be processing orders for beef and pork one last time in late November.  Our freezers will also be full of select cuts and assortments as well as Storage Veggies and Micro Greens.  We'll begin again with regular deliveries around the beginning of March 2020.


    Still doing Winterizing of water supplies and vehicles. Also staying busy with propane heaters to keep the remaining fresh veggies alive and electric heaters as needed to protect the storage veggies.

    Just started feeding the cattle hay this last week. With the colder weather they are eating a lot more. Some of the cows have a belly so full I can't tell if they are about to have a baby.  We've had eight calves born so far and expect around 10 more.  Just fed the cattle four 1,000 lb hay bales yesterday afternoon and they are gone already!  Now they are heading back out to range land seeking any new grass growth. It's mostly what we commonly called cheat grass, also known as Downy Brome. It has stickers in the summer but good in the early spring and late fall.


    Still working on the large storage barn. Doors are installed but need some adjusting, followed by some trim work and handles and such. Learned with the doors closed the inside of the barn is pretty warm which happily surprised me. My Grandson, an HVAC Technician explained why. It seems all the warm air sucked out of the freezer by the refrigeration unit and compressor is exhausted out into the air space around it, unless blown outside by fan ducts.  Yaay free heat!!

    Other Critters all doing well. The new young boar and three nice gilts are getting along well. Laying hens still doing well except on the real frigid days.


Besides the regular cooler deliveries we'll soon be packing a lot of Special Orders and Turkeys. Also making up for the short supply of beef items a couple weeks ago.  Let's take a look at what we plan to deliver this week.


Micro Greens, Chard, Kale Fresh Leeks, Daikon Radish w/greens, Napa Cabbage, Dry Onion, Potatoes, Squash, Carrots, Beets, Celery, Cabbage, Herb-Rosemary, Green Tomatoes and eggs.

Variety of Meats:

Two Ground Beef, Chicken, Beef Short Ribs, Beef Steaks, Sausage Links, Pork Country Ribs, Bacon, Bacon/Ham bits,

Special Orders:

Time to Order Turkey's, Ducks, or Geese for the Holidays as well as any large Ham or Beef  Roasts for Christmas!
