Happy & Healthy Baby Chicks!

Hello Friends,

Been taking a break with the warm up to finish painting our house exterior. Got started on it way back when doing the new roof. Plan to add a back porch next year with a wheelchair ramp so we can stay working here later in life. I also bought one of those big lawnmower tractors last year. It works pretty good to get around and haul things with a trailer when I get to tired to walk. The cows and hogs give me strange looks! The horses check out the trailer to see if I brought any goodies.

Had one of our American Kobe Beef T-Bone steaks for dinner. It was so tender I should advertise the meat for folks with dentures who can't chew well like me! American Kobe Beef is a crossbred of Angus and Wagyu breeds. I'm on my fourth year of being able to offer this breed of beef.

We are posting the News Letter and more to our web site Blog now. Please take a look and sign up for a weekly update. In the future all Buying Club Members, which includes CSA and Custom Livestock Members as well as frequent purchasers, will be added to the mailing list. The Blog also provides a way for you to give feedback on our news, sales and products. Because of the inflationary economy we are feeling forced to raise our prices as many of the other producers like us have already. Anyone who is a CSA Member, or placed a Special Order or Custom Livestock Order, before the year ends, will not be effected.

Sorry to say we lost two Lambs and a new born calf to predators. Local hunters tell me mountain lions and bears are being spotted in the area which is very rare. Some think all the fires and smoke caused them to relocate to this side of Spokane River from the Indian Reservation on the other side. Calf could have been lost to Coyotes but they couldn't carry a 150 lb lamb away.

Really pleased the 150 new baby chicks are doing very well. Only two losses which is very good. Often lose over 10% the first week. Baby piglets doing fine too.

That same dumb farmer left the gate open the other day after feeding hay. About half the cows and the horses all ran out and scattered. Caught the cows with the help of my wife and the new puppy. Horses ran down the county road and headed over the hills. Got a few calls from the neighbors. Thankfully the joy running horses showed up back home this morning and were pretty hungry!

Still need to do some more rock picking in the new 40 acre field but decided to take a break till my back is feeling better. Hired two young men to help but they never came back for another day's work.

The walk in freezer failed again. My Grandson returned right away and found a wire connection had shaken loose in the new defrost control unit. Now it's running at 10 degrees below zero.  Good thing I hadn't found time to refill it from all the small freezers around here.

Took a beef and hog to the processor. He's so busy this Fall Season he said I couldn't bring more till late November.  Also picked up a Whole Beef and Oversize Hog for CSA and Farm Store Sales. Farm Store Meat sales have been substantial this month so far. Trying to stock up the freezer for the Winter.

Become a Buying Club Member and be eligible for discounts and special sales at the Farm Store. We also still welcome Special Orders.  Soon we will be posting Special Holiday Meat Cuts of Beef, Pork and Lamb in addition to the Poultry Turkey's, Ducks and Geese. About Half the Turkey's are already sold!

This will be the 33rd Delivery of the year / 9th for the Fall Qtr. After next week we will begin delivering the Holiday meat Item choices and Orders from CSA Members. Also we'll be bringing an extra box of storage veggies to help you all with the Holidays.

Since we are down to the last month it is time to make Membership arrangement's for next year. We have been favored by early payments from a few Members that made it possible for me to buy seed for the 40 acre field, a years supply of Organic Potting Soil and Fertilizer for the Green Houses, as well as a big order for veggie seeds.  We are already planting starts in the Hot House for transplant to the Hoop Houses for growing to meet the March orders. In the Fall many close out bargain sales for these products are available. We needs these items now to offer a 36 month CSA Program.

Happy to say we have several new Members who signed up late this season and hope they will all be with us next year.
