Growth is Kicking in!
Been staying home the last few days because of the washed over county road to our place. Test drove it this afternoon and we should be able to get out again with the help of four wheel drive. About 70% of the snow is gone now but there are many water ponds and big muddy muck holes out there.
The hogs are loving the weather conditions. Just before the wash outs I was lucky enough to haul feed in for them just in time. Also brought some in for the chickens. Had to drive the tractor around to do chores and I almost got it stuck several times but made it out ok. We spent a lot of time trying to redirect the water flow across the road with little ditches. It seemed to help a little, especially on a down hill portion to our home site which has all washed out before in the past. Still to wet for the County to send the road graders out. If I was ready the horses could have been a help to check on the critters since they don't need a road. We've survived worse two times before. Crazy thing is after all the late snow and cold things are getting back to normal weather real fast. Hope it continues!
Online orders picking up lately. More orders last week then all Winter. I have about 10 hogs that are the size to process right now so get your Custom orders in while they last. Also been selling Custom Beef and Lamb portions.
Things are actually starting to grow faster in the hoop/green houses. "SO" can barely keep up with the transplanting of the starts that are ready. A lot of work to catch up on. Had several folks advise us they are considering signing up for the CSA Program. This is the first time we have ever made deliveries in the snow let alone four times altogether.
Let's take a look at our plans for deliveries this Thursday:
Produce with Eggs:
Micro Greens Mix, Lettuce Salad Mix, Daikon Radish Greens , Swiss Chard, Kale, Salad Onions, Herb-Sage again, Dry Onions, Beets, Carrots, Potatoes, Winter Squash and Eggs.
Variety of Meats:
Chicken, Ground Beef, Beef Steak, Stew Meat, Short Ribs, Pork Chops, Large Link Sausages, Ground Pork Sausage.
Common Sense Health and Nutrition:
Many of the veggies and fruit recalls we hear about in the news are the result of contamination from factory farms of water by manures and pesticides which is later used for irrigation and processing of the crops. Often make the animals sick as well. Thankfully you have a healthy alternative with us.
See You All Soon!
