Great to Be Back!

Hello Friends and Members,

It was great being back in business for another year and seeing many of you again after the winter quarter break! All the scheduled CSA Members showed up on the first delivery. I think that is a first! On Special Orders for Meats usually all is required is an order one day in advance because of the meat being frozen and already wrapped. With Produce we need the order by Monday as most items are harvested and processed on Tuesday or Wednesday and packed early Thursday morning. Custom Meat Portions normally require at least six weeks. Occasionally, as an exception, 3 weeks if a portion hasn't been claimed.  Produce for retail sales will not be available until spring quarter season as CSA Members come first.

Farm News:

The weather was so nice I caught Spring Fever and wanted to do some field work. Scouted the fields to make sure there were no muddy spots. Everything looked good until the rainstorm last night. Back to square one. Good time to do paperwork for the tax return.  Also still have plenty of fence repair work to do.  That never ends! Have about 170 acres of field work to do this spring. For a small scale farm like us that's a lot of ground to cover.  Takes several passes for each field. Then we have the mowing and tree pruning and garden cultivation to do too.  Some folks have asked us "Isn't it boring living out on the farm?"  Not if boring means nothing to do!

Been getting a few equipment repairs done too. Did some more work cleaning up last years debris as well.

"SO" the Green Thumb around here is still staying real busy also. She finished cleaning out all last years rubbish from the five Hoop Houses and while working on rejuvenation growth of some of the perennial and bi-annual surviving plants. She also transplanted a lot of starts from the Hot House. I'm including a few recent photo's of this activity.  Plenty more to do.

CSA News:

Surprisingly all went well for the Fist Delivery last week.  This week we have several more Members coming because of schedule changes. Other fresh produce items will become available as Spring and warmer weather continue. Please remember to return any coolers you may still have from last year!!

Well let's take a look at what is planed for delivery this week:

Cooler of The Best Produce and Eggs - Micro Greens Mix, Spring Salad Mix, Kale, Collard Greens, Daikon Greens, Herb - Rosemary, Leeks, Salad Onions, Winter storage items - Carrots, Beets, Potatoes, Winter Squash, Dry Onion and fresh eggs.

Variety of Meats - Ground Beef, Chicken, Beef Steaks, Stew or Stir Fry Meat, Pork Chops, Bacon, Ground Breakfast Sausage, Smoked Sausage, Soup item

Health and Nutrition:

As everyone, we are concerned about the Flu threats out there. If anyone has a respiratory problem please protect yourself with gloves and face masks when making the pick up.  We will do the same if needed. We'll also be taking extra steps to sterilize the returned coolers. We try to protect most of the fresh items by separating them into bags when practical. We experienced a bad flu late last Fall and take this problem seriously but not with panic. Wishing you well.

Enjoy Seeing You All!
