Doors & Details

Hello friends and Members,

All is going well in spite of the very strange weather.

Farm News:

All the cattle now enjoying alfalfa grass pasture since the cold frosted all the regrowth. First time in 36 years this has been possible. Haven't had to feed any hay yet. Usually have to start feeding hay by late August because by then everything is dry and brittle.

Been spending a lot of time working on the shop buildings. They needed new doors so I could keep the winter weather out and get some mechanical work done on equipment during the Winter.  This is very important because I have a lot of field work to do early next Spring.  Finished all the new doors on the shop/garage.

Currently working on the doors for the storage building we call the Red Barn.

All the work was done here at the farm by me and a friend who actually built each door completely with material I rounded up. They sell ready made door kits but far more expensive that way. Hoping we get the other building done before the weather gets too bad.  Still have some work needed on the other barn.

Got all the lights and propane heaters working in the green houses again with the help of my Grandson who is an HVAC Technician. Also got restocked with a pickup truck full of propane tanks.  This is about 6 weeks earlier than we usually have to do it. Lost some plants the other day when the temperature went down to 20 degrees and the power went out for a few hours.  We have managed to harvest and store some crops but not all.

Happy, our new stock dog is having fun chasing the deer away. Had another calf born. That makes six so far this Fall. Really like watching them play together while SO is feeding apples to her pet cow Curly.  Turned all the little pigs outside on pasture. They are about 3 months old. Took three beef to the Processor for customers and meat inventory.
