Crazy Cows

Hello Friends,

Great weather lately for the farming. Found a shop to fix our Suburban's transmission next week, which is great news because we need its rear air conditioning to refrigerate our deliveries on hot days. We'll be looking for a replacement because the one we have now has over 335,000 miles on it. The last week before it broke down I had to use it to chase cows and one crazy one decided to butt into the front corner bending the hood and smashing the headlight. Maybe that's why it decided to break down? My hog loading hip/back injury seems to be healing. A 500 lb hog might be a bigger slammer than a football lineman's block. Have to avoid lifting and bending for awhile. Not easy for me to do.

CSA NEWS: Another New Member joined. Sure glad we have quite a few very supportive members to support the CSA program! Starting to gather some of the Fall veggies. Had a frost last night that nailed most of the squash so had to do an early harvest. Lost a few varieties that weren't ready. Same thing happened earlier at harvest time for early Summer Squash. Considering all the adverse weather and smoke we are not doing too bad but falling short of what has been normal for us. Well let's take a look at what to expect this week.

Produce/Eggs - Micro Green Mix, Lettuce Salad Mix, Kale, Chard, Collards, Potatoes, Carrots, Daikon Radish w/Greens, Napa Cabbage, Squash, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Sesame Leaves, Garlic Chives, Salad Onions, Dry Sweet Onion, Garlic Bulb, Rhubarb, Herb-Sage, Mixed Peppers, Egg Plant, Fennel Greens, Beets w/Greens, and Eggs.

Variety of Meats - Chicken, Ground Beef, Beef Roast, Bacon, Bacon/Ham Bits for stir fry, Smoked Sausage, Seasoned Ground Pork, Surprise item.

FARM NEWS: Cows much happier now after the rain showers this last week. Out grazing range land again but still want that hay. Have to say considering everything they are looking in very good condition. Expecting some calves by end of next month. I did have to chase them away from a fence with a view of a neighbors garden. Fortunately they had a dog to help. Finished the hydraulic repairs to my field tractor. Also repaired a cultivator needed for the field work I mentioned last week. Had to repair our little green pick up too but after I figured out the problem it wasn't to bad. Cost an afternoon of my time though. Lost my Cell Phone while repairing some fence to keep the smaller piglets from getting out. I think one of them carried it away somewhere like the hog wallow mud? I've given finding it up and will get a new one soon.

Regret losing some good photo's. Most of my Hogs for pork are all sold now. Only one left. Have a few more that may be big enough by Dec. Most of my Custom Beef also sold. Only a couple left for this Fall.

See You All Soon, Gary and So
